The 4-H unit celebrates National 4-H Week every year in October at Prairie View A&M University, but there is no time like the present to join a 4-H club or become a volunteer. All are welcome to participate in the annual Adult Volunteer “Signing Day” training where new and current volunteers can apply to work with 4-H clubs across the state and the 4-H Purple and Gold Campus Advisory Council. Adult volunteers and partners are exposed to rewarding opportunities to mentor youth, chaperon club events and camps, lead young people in 4-H projects, serve as judges, assist with community service projects and help youth with other fun-filled projects.
During the 2017 event, seven new volunteers worked with 4-H Program Specialist Dr. Joice A. Jeffries to set up their Texas 4-H Profile account, complete their Child Protection Training and submitted applications for their background checks. After volunteers are cleared, they get continuous âon-the-jobâ training to work with the extension staff and youth in implementing life-skills programs. New volunteers include Tiyah Reed, Mrs. Pat Moore, Mr. Frederick Roberts, Mrs. Eunice Carroll, Paige Culpepper, Brittany Carter, and Ms. Najla Moore.
Partners, based on their skills, schedules, and flexibility, decide on their level of involvement with 4-H clubs. Monthly 4-H workshops are held on campus for the Advisory Council. Also, Jeffries provides monthly training in the county for 4-H agents, volunteers, and club members.
“Helping to make the best, better” is what volunteers provide for Texas communities. Volunteer today! We will provide the training!
